WEDNESDAY, 2nd JULY, 1919.
1. Meeting of Senate.—-The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.
2. PRAYERS.
3. 'Sentences on Men in Australian Navy.—Senator Gardiner proceeding to ask a question in regard to the sentences lately passed on certain men in the Australian Navy—a point of order was raised that the proposed question contained an expression which had already, in regard to the same matter, been ruled out of order. Mr. President upheld the point raised, and ruled the proposed question out of order. Dissent from President's Ruling.—Senator Gardiner thereupon objected in writing to the ruling of the
President and moved—That the ruling of Mr. President that the following question, viz. : “ Is it a fact that the British officers in command of the Australian Navy have passed severe and savage sentences on men who have rendered distinguished service during the war ” is out of order, be ' disagreed with. Debate forthwith adjourned until the next sitting day. -4. P apers.—The-Minister for Repatriation (Senator Millen) laid on the Table the following Papers, . viz.:—

Suspension of Standing and Sessional Orders.— The Minister for Repatriation (Senator Millen), pursuant to contingent notice, moved -That so much of the Standing and Sessional Orders be suspended as would prevent the Supply Bill (No. 1) 1919-20 being passed through all its stages .without delay. - .
