1. Meeting of Senate.—The Senate met at three p.m., pursuant to adjournment.

2. PRAYERS.

3. P apers.—The Minister for' Repatriation (Senator Millen) laid on the Table the following Papers, viz.:— By Command— Papua : Annual Report for the year 1917-18.

Sheepskins—Purchase by Imperial Government, Season 1917-18: Financial Statement, Appraisement and Disposition Statement, and Fellmongering Account.

4. Questions.—Questions on notice wer6 answered. ■ ' ' 1

5. Notice of Motion withdrawn.—Notice of Motion, No. 1, Private Business, was withdrawn.

6. L eave of Absence.—Senator O’Keefe, pursuant to notice, moved—That two months leave of absence be granted to Senator Guy on the ground of ill-health. Question—put and passed.

7. Northern T erritory (Administration) Bill.—The Acting Minister for Defenie (Senator Russell), pursuant to notice, moved—That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend section six of the “ Northern Territory (Administration) Act 1910.” Question—put and passed. *

8. Lighthouses B ill.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell), pursuant to notice, moved— That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend the “ Lighthouses Act 1911.” Question—put and passed. ·

Bill presented and read a first time, and second reading made an Order of the day for the next day of sitting. *

9. Trade Marks B ill.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell), pursuant to notice, moved —That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to ampnd the “ Trade Marks Act 1905-1912.” Question—put and passed.

10. Aliens R egistration Bill.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell), pursuant to notice, moved—That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act relating to the Registration of Aliens. Question—put and passed. -

11. R ent P aid fo r. Departments in Melbourne : R eturn.—Senator Foil, pursuant to notice, moved-—That a detailed return be supplied showing the total amount of rent paid by the Government for each Department in Melbourne, including the Parliament. Question—put and passed. *

12. P ostponements.—Ordered that the following postponements of Private Business be made, viz.:— Notices of Motion Nos. 4 and 6 until Thursday, 10th July next. . Notice of Motion No. 8 until Thursday next. - Orders of the Day Nos. 1 and 3 until Thursday next, .

13. W ireless T elegraphy B ill.—The Acting Minister for Defence (Senator Russell), pursuant to notice, moved—That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend section two of the “ Wireless Telegraphy Act 1905-1915.”

Debate ensued. Question—put and passed. Bill presented and read a first time, and second reading made an Order of the Day for the next day of sitting.

14. Ministerial Statement : Statement rb Official Business and P roposed Work for the Session—P aper.—Order of the Day read for the adjourned debate on the Question—That the paper be printed. _

Debate resumed. On motion of Senator Bakhap, the debate was adjourned. · Ordered—That the resumption of the debate be an Order of the Day for a later hour of the day:

15. N ew Senator S worn.—Edward Mulcahy, a Senator for the State of Tasmania, made and Subscribed the Oath of Allegiance at the Table, pursuant to the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act, and took his seat.

16. Ministerial Statement : Statement re Official B usiness and P roposed Work foA the Session.— Order of the Day read for the resumption of the debate on the Question—That the Paper be printed. Debate resumed. Ordered—That the debate be adjourned till the next day of sitting, and that Senator O’Keefe have

leave to continue his speech on the resumption of the debate.

17. A djournment.—The Senate adjourned at twenty-nine minutes past six p.m. till to-morrow at eleven a.m.
