24    Discussion of matter of public importance —Economics —Economy—Interests of working Australians

The President informed the Senate that, at 8.30 am today, 10 senators had each submitted a letter in accordance with standing order 75. The proposal to be submitted to the Senate was determined by lot.

As a result, the President informed the Senate that Senator Gallagher had proposed that the following matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion:

The need for the economy to work in the interests of working Australians.

The proposal was supported by four senators and the matter was discussed.
