Leave Refused: The Leader of the Opposition in the Senate (Senator Chaney) sought leave to move the motion of which he gave notice earlier this day (see Entry No. 4 above), relating to a proposed reference to the Standing Committee on Finance and Government Operations.

Proposed Suspension of Standing Orders: Senator Chaney moved-That so much of the Standing Orders be suspended as would prevent Senator Chaney moving forthwith the motion of which Senator Chaney gave notice earlier this day, relating to the reference to the Standing Committee on Finance and Government Operations of the Paper on housing loan interest rates tabled by the Minister for Education (Senator Ryan) on 25 February 1986.
