PETITIONS

The following 9 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senator Haines, from 16 petitioners praying that the Senate pass the Independent and Multicultural Broadcasting Corporation Bill 1986.

Senators Sir John Carrick, Gietzelt and Sibraa, from 217, 248 and 186 petitioners, respectively, praying that the Senate request the Government to retain the Anzac Rifle Range in Malabar, NSW.

Senator Withers, from 2752 petitioners praying that the Senate reject the fringe benefits tax legislation.

Senator Haines, from 18 petitioners praying that the Senate reject proposals for a national identification card system and Data Protection Agency.

Senator Grimes, from 72 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to support welfare agencies which provide food vouchers and to ensure that such vouchers cannot be used to procure items other than food.

Senator Coleman, from 56 petitioners praying that the cost of prescriptions for drugs be not increased.

Senator Sibraa, from 171 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to restore funding for ""English as a Second Language'' programs and multicultural education.
