Senator Michael Baume, by leave, gave a Notice of Motion, as follows-To move on the next day of sitting-That the Senate, noting Australia's rising inflation, increasing unemployment, worsening balance of payments crisis, record interest rates and declining investment-

(a) deplores the confusion created by the misleading and contradictory statements made by the Treasurer (Mr Keating) on the state of the Australian economy and calls on the Federal Government to:

(i) reduce the record spending budgetted for this year,

(ii) restructure the industrial relations system as recommended by the Federal Opposition,

(iii) reduce the heavy burden of Government regulation, and

(iv) abandon its damaging anti-business taxes; and

(b) condemns the Treasurer for trying to paper over these defects by reverting to his old habit of falsely talking-up the economy.
