MIGRATION AMENDMENT BILL 1986

Senator Messner moved an amendment, viz: Page 2, clause 3, at end of proposed new section 6aaa, add the following new sub-sections:

""(2) Where a person to whom sub-section (1) applies-

(a) is not an Australian citizen; and

(b) is of an age not less than 18 years and not more than 40 years,

and that person applies for an entry permit, an entry permit shall be granted to that person.

""(3) Notwithstanding any other provision of this Act, an entry permit granted under sub-section (2) may be granted subject to conditions.

""(4) Sub-section (2) does not affect-

(a) any requirement, other than the grant of an entry permit, relating to entry into Australia; or

(b) any right relating to entry into Australia or Australian citizenship existing apart from that sub-section.''.

Debate ensued.
