PETITIONS

The following 8 petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received:

Senators Chipp, Haines and Puplick, from 10, 14 and 8 petitioners, respectively, praying that a Joint Parliamentary Committee be established to consider proposals for the design of a new Australian National Flag.

Senator Chaney, from 56 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to introduce its capital gains tax legislation and that this legislation be opposed in the Senate.

Senator Mason, from 791 petitioners praying that the proposed introduction of compulsory identification cards be rejected.

Senator Robertson, from 17 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to prohibit nuclear armed or powered vessels from entering Port Jackson.

Senator Peter Baume, from 120 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to support an inquiry into the nuclear accident at Chernobyl and support the elimination of Russian nuclear influence from the Ukraine.

Senator Aulich, from 68 petitioners praying that the Senate request the Government to protect the right of every employee to choose their own superannuation scheme and recognise only those schemes which provide genuine superannuation.
