JUDICIARY AMENDMENT BILL 1985

The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the further consideration of the Bill.

In the Committee

Consideration resumed of the Bill and of the amendment moved thereto by Senator Durack, viz: Page 1, clause 3, lines 9 to 15, leave out the clause, insert the following new clause:

Indictments

""3. Section 69 of the Principal Act is amended by inserting in sub-section (3) "or refer the matter to such legal aid authorities as the Attorney-General considers appropriate' after "the accused person'.''.

Question-That the words proposed to be left out be left out-put and passed.

Question-That the words proposed to be inserted be inserted-put and passed.

Amendment agreed to accordingly.

Bill, as amended, agreed to.

Bill to be reported with an amendment.

The Deputy-President resumed the Chair; and the Temporary Chairman of Committees (Senator MacGibbon) reported accordingly.

On the motion of the Minister for Resources and Energy (Senator Evans) the Report from the Committee was adopted, and the Bill read a third time.
