Notices of Motion were given, as follows- The Leader of the Australian Democrats (Senator Chipp): To move on the next day of sitting-That the Senate- (a) commends the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, Senator Chaney, for his action in disassociating the Opposition from the racist views of Mr George Crawford of the Australian Labor Party (ALP), concerning the intake of refugees from Vietnam; and

(b) applauds the courageous action of the Leader of the Government, Senator John Button, in denouncing Mr Crawford's views on behalf of the ALP.

Senator Boswell: To move on the next day of sitting-That the Senate- (a) notes that the May Economic Statement contained the following decisions adversely affecting the people of Queensland, the Northern Territory and Tasmania: (i) termination of the subsidy of diesel fuel costs to Queensland charter boat operators on the Great Barrier Reef,

(ii) termination of the western Queensland air service subsidy,

(iii) delaying of work on the Darwin, Townsville and Brisbane Airports,

(iv) reduction of the Tasmanian Freight Equalisation Scheme, and

(v) deferral of the extension of the Special Broadcasting Service to Darwin; and

(b) condemns the Hawke Labor Government for applying budgeting and economic strategies in a blatantly political manner, which amounts to a declaration of economic warfare against States and Territories who support free-enterprise governments.
