DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC PROSECUTIONS BILL 1983

The Senate, according to Order, resolved itself into Committee for the consideration of Message No. 164 of the House of Representatives.

SCHEDULE OF THE AMENDMENT MADE BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Clause 3, page 2, lines 18 and 19, omit paragraphs (a) and (b) of the definition of ''law of the Commonwealth'', substitute the following paragraphs:

''(a) the Northern Territory (Self-Government) Act 1978;

(b) the Norfolk Island Act 1979; or

(c) a law made under, or continued in force by, an Act referred to in paragraph (a) or (b);''.

The Attorney-General (Senator Gareth Evans) moved-That the amendment made by the House of Representatives be agreed to.

The Acting Deputy-President (Senator Haines) resumed the Chair; and the Chairman of Committees (Senator Hamer) reported that the Committee had considered Message No. 164 of the House of Representatives relating to the Director of Public Prosecutions Bill 1983 and had agreed to the amendment made by the House of Representatives in the Bill.

On the motion of Senator Gareth Evans the Report from the Committee was adopted.
