The President informed the Senate that Senator Peter Rae had proposed that a matter of public importance be submitted to the Senate for discussion, viz: ''The adverse impact on employment of the Government's broken promises and the total confusion caused by this divided Government's public disarray over its manufacturing industry policy''.

And at least 4 Senators having risen in support of the proposed discussion

Postponement: The Leader of the Government (Senator Button) moved-That, unless otherwise ordered, further consideration of the Matter of Public Importance be postponed till after consideration of Government Business, Orders of the Day Nos 1 to 4 (Health Legislation Amendment Bill 1983 and related Bills).
