PETITIONS

The following petitions, lodged with the Clerk by the Senators indicated, were received: Senator Macklin, from 165 petitioners praying that the Senate reject any legislation to increase taxation on lump sum superannuation.

Senators Baume, Bjelke-Petersen, Sir John Carrick, Childs and Macklin, from 20, 102, 17, 14 and 20 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be not ratified.

Senators Bjelke-Petersen and Crowley, from 14 and 20 petitioners, respectively, praying that the United Nations Convention on the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women be ratified.

Senators Colston and MacGibbon, from 46 and 62 petitioners, respectively, praying that the requirement for tertiary fees for overseas students be reviewed .

Senator Kilgariff, from 409 petitioners praying that the proposed railway from Adelaide to Darwin be completed.
