Notices of Motion were given, as follows- Senator Mason: To move on the next day of sitting-That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend the Income Tax Assessment Act 1936 to remove provisions for deductions from taxable income in respect of the removal of indigenous trees.

Senator Maguire: No. 1-To move on the next day of sitting-That the Senate congratulates the Bannon Labor Government in South Australia for the steps taken to give an urgently needed boost to small business by- (a) initiating moves to increase the general payroll tax exemption from $140 000 to $250 000 progressively over 3 years; and

(b) abolishing payroll tax liabilities in respect of group apprenticeship schemes.

No. 2-To move on the next day of sitting-That the Senate deplores the needlessly high level of informal voting at the 1983 Senate election and- (a) notes with particular concern that in New South Wales and Victoria the total informal vote exceeded one Senate electoral quota; and

(b) welcomes Government electoral reform initiatives.
