Senator Mason, pursuant to notice, moved-That the Senate requests the Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations to initiate a new program for young people aged 16 to 21 years to alleviate the worst effects of unemployment in this age group by: (a) the introduction of permanent part-time work without penalty in the form of reduced unemployment benefits;

(b) encouraging businesses and unions to co-operate in making at least one work place per enterprise available, worked on a roster basis, for young unemployed people; and

(c) providing many more part-time and full-time educational and training opportunities for unemployed people.

Debate ensued.

Ordered-That the debate be adjourned till the next day of sitting, and that Senator Harradine have leave to continue his speech on the resumption of the debate.
