Notices of Motion were given, as follows- Senator Teague: That, on the next day of sitting, he would move-That the Senate is of the opinion that: (a) the South Australian Labor Government's exploration of new taxes and increased levels of State taxation is, in a matter of only a few weeks from the election, a gross denial of Mr Bannon's pre-election promise that the Australian Labor Party '' will not introduce new taxes or increase existing levels of State taxation during our term of office''; and

(b) this rejection of election undertakings indicates that the ordinary people of South Australia will now be forced by the new South Australian Government to pay the price for the manner in which the Australian Labor Party, with false promises, bought government at the last election.

Senator McLaren: That, on the next day of sitting, he would move-That the Senate : (a) calls on the Government to take immediate action to relieve the serious unemployment crisis in the lower south-east of South Australia where, due to the Federal Government's policy of extraordinary high interest rates which have had an adverse effect on home building, coupled with imports of New Zealand and North American timber, workers are continually being retrenched from the forests and mills in the area; and

(b) reminds the Government that one form of immediate action is to make a ''no strings attached'' grant to the State Government to enable work to commence on a sewage treatment works at Finger Point where at present the raw sewage from Mount Gambier is discharged directly into the open sea and is causing grave concern to the local lobster fishing industry.
