NOTICES OF MOTION

Notices of Motion were given, as follows- Senator Siddons: That, on the next day of sitting, he would move-That leave be given to introduce a Bill for an Act to amend the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 to provide for the political affiliation of candidates at Parliamentary elections to be printed on ballot- papers, and to provide for the rotation of names on ballot-papers for House of Representatives elections.

Senator Martin: That, on the next day of sitting, she would move- (1) That the Senate House Committee inquire into matters raised following the publication of the Committee's Report on the organisation, operation, functions and financial administration of the Joint House Department.

(2) That, for the purpose of the inquiry, the President shall not be a member of the Committee.

(3) That the Committee shall consist of six Senators.

(4) That the quorum of the Committee shall be three.

(5) That the Committee shall elect a Government Senator as Chairman.

(6) That the Chairman may from time to time appoint a member of the Committee to be Deputy-Chairman and the member so appointed shall act as Chairman of the Committee at any time when there is no Chairman or the Chairman is not present at a meeting of the Committee.

(7) That, in the event of an equality of voting, the Chairman, or the Deputy- Chairman when acting as Chairman, shall have a casting vote.

(8) That a Senator, though not a member of the Committee, may attend and participate in its deliberations, and question witnesses, unless the Committee orders otherwise, but shall not vote.

(9) That the Committee shall have the power to send for and examine persons, papers and records, to move from place to place, and to meet and transact business in public or private session and notwithstanding any prorogation of the Parliament or dissolution of the House of Representatives.

(10) That the Committee may proceed to the despatch of business notwithstanding that all members have not been appointed and notwithstanding any vacancy.

(11) That the Committee shall be empowered to print from day to day such papers and evidence as may be ordered by it, and a daily Hansard shall be published of such proceedings of the Committee as take place in public.

(12) That the Committee shall be provided with all necessary staff, facilities and resources with the approval of the President.

(13) That the Committee shall present a final report as soon as possible.

(14) that if the Senate be not sitting when the Committee has completed its Report- (a) the Committee may send the Report to the President of the Senate or, if the President is unable to act due to illness or other cause, to the Deputy- President of the Senate;

(b) the Report shall be deemed to have been presented to the Senate and the President or the Deputy-President is authorised to give directions for its printing and circulation; and

(c) in such event, the President or the Deputy-President shall lay the Report upon the Table at the next sitting of the Senate.

(15) That the foregoing provisions of this Resolution, so far as they are inconsistent with the Standing Orders, shall have effect notwithstanding anything contained in the Standing Orders.
