SOCIAL SERVICES AMENDMENT BILL 1981--Order of the Day read for the adjourned

debate on the Question--That this Bill be now read a second time.

Senator Grimes moved an amendment, viz: At end of motion, add "", but the Senate is of the opinion that the Bill should be re-drafted to provide for--

(a) the removal of the discrimination against tenants in Government housing; (b) the removal of the discrimination against the adult unemployed without dependants;

(c) an increase in the unemployment benefit for the under-18 unemployed; (d) the inclusion of the first and second children in the provision of increased family allowances in line with those for third and later children;

(e) the removal of the provision discriminating against the spouses of union members affected by industrial disputes, and

(f) the removal of discrimination against the spouses of unemployed persons who fail the work test''.

Debate ensued.
