Senator BROWN (10:04 AM) —The obvious problem in that is that doctors and plumbers are not wanting to appear to represent Australians before the Australian courts. We are talking here about the separation of powers between the body politic and the Australian court system, and this is a clear intrusion of politics into that court system. The minister has been totally unsatisfactory in terms of directly answering the questions I have been putting to him, but I ask again: why is it that the courts cannot make this determination? The minister said yesterday that it may be embarrassing. What would be embarrassing about a court making a determination on who is fit to appear before it as a legal representative?
