Senator BROWN (5:51 PM) —The minister may have covered this—if he has, I ask him to forgive me for going over it again. Firstly, why is a warrant, as required under the existing IT legislation, not sufficient for police authorities or ASIO to access the stored information? Secondly, is it the case that private businesses and individuals could gain the right to access such stored information as citizens by obtaining and exercising a civil search order through legal proceedings?
