Mr ROB MITCHELL (McEwen) ( 13:32 ): It was a pleasure for me to attend the first annual awards and appreciation night for the Hume Bomb ers Football Club last Saturday with my good friend Ros Spence. I know the whip has given me this spot because she knows that for me, as a lifelong Carlton supporter, this is going to be very hard to say. But I want to give an absolute shout-out to the Essendon Football Club for their fantastic work in the community. As much as it pains me to say it, they do a sensational job.

The Hume Bombers are one of a kind in Australia, recognised by the AFL as an innovative model that is bringing diverse communities together to share in Australia's greatest pastime, Aussie Rules football. The club is celebrating and embracing multiculturalism and diversity through sport, and bringing our community together in such fantastic teams. The work that the AFL and Essendon Football Club have been doing is just unbelievable in the way that they're bringing communities together and making sure that all kids have an opportunity. On R U OK? Day it's important to know that these kids now don't face any issues, because they've been accepted and are having a great time playing football, and we've seen some fantastic talent developing there. It's great to see t he kids out there each weekend having heaps of fun playing in the under- nine s and under-13s of the Essendon District Football League down in Donnybrook, learning about Aussie sporting culture and building great friendships. I look forward to the club taking in many new members with the growth in the outer north.

I have to particularly thank Mr Avtar Singh and Mr Guri Singh for organising this wonderful night , and , of course, the Hume Bombers for showing us the power of community. Here's to an even bigger and better Hume Bombers in 2019.

The DEPUTY SPEAKER (Mr Hogan): I call the member for Dawson, and I congratulate the member for Dawson on his enga gement, announced this morning.
