Mr STEELE HALL —Is the Prime Minister aware of the newsletter entitled 'Hard Facts for Hard Times' published by Joan Coxsedge, MLC, suggesting that Mr Justice Hope may be appointed Chief Judge of the Federal Court of Australia and that Mr McHugh, QC, may be appointed Solicitor-General? Has the Prime Minister decided to make these appointments after the retirement of the respective office holders?

Mr HAWKE —The answer to the honourable member's question is no, and that is because, amongst the great demands upon my time and the many important things I have to read, I must assert that anything written by Mrs Coxsedge comes very low on the list. I know that will bring joy and comfort to one and all in the House! No, I am not aware of it, and I will not be taking steps after Question Time to read it. In regard to the substance of the question, if indeed one can discern any substance in it, of course the Government has made no decision in respect of the matters raised by the honourable member.
