(1) Notes with approval the action of the Government in promoting, ratifying and applying International Maritime Conventions;

(2) Notes particularly the depositing on 7 November 1983 with the International Maritime Organisation of instruments of acceptance to the following convention and protocols;

(a) the Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers;

(b) the Search and Rescue Convention;

(c) the Convention of Civic Liability for Oil Pollution Damage, and its protocol, and

(d) the Convention Relating to Intervention on the High Seas in Cases of Oil Pollution Casualties and its protocol concerning other substances;

(3) Acknowledges the significance of this action for the protection of Australia's marine environment from the effects of ship-based pollution, and

(4) Is of the opinion that this record of achievement contrasts with the lack of action on the part of the previous Government.
