Question No. 80

Mr McVeigh asked the Minister for Primary Industry, upon notice, on 4 May 1983:

Will the Government extend the Commonwealth interest payments subsidy for one year beyond the lifting of drought declarations, as promised by the previous Government.

Mr Kerin —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

The Government has decided to extend the interest rate subsidy for drought affected farmers until 31 December 1983. When a drought declaration is lifted, farmers in that area cease to be eligible for the interest rate subsidy but have twelve months to lodge claims for subsidy which accrued prior to the lifting of the drought declaration.
