Mr BRAITHWAITE —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That this House-

(1) notes with alarm-

(a) the determination of a small group of people to change the Australian flag, and

(b) the hypocrisy of the Australian Labor Party in joining in this call while adopting the present Australian flag as part of its motif, and

(2) applauds the formation of an Australian National Flag Association of Queensland on 21 September 1983 to foster pride in and to continue the use of our existing national flag by-

(a) communicating positively to all Australians the importance and significance of a chief national symbol, the Australian national flag;

(b) providing promotional and educational material concerning the Australian flag;

(c) promoting the Australian identity overseas by the use of the Australian national flag;

(d) supporting existing 'fly the flag' programs and encouraging support from recognised organisations, and

(e) encouraging personal identity with the Australian national flag at all levels within the community.
