Mr NEWMAN —I give notice that, on the next day of sitting, I shall move:

That this House-

(1) Notes that-

(a) the Launceston General Hospital is the major public hospital serving northern Tasmania;

(b) the costs of the urgent redevelopment of the hospital to date have been shared equally between the State and Federal Government;

(c) the first stage of this redevelopment has led to grossly inefficient practices and uneconomic administration; and

(d) the introduction of Medicare will place further pressures on the hospital which will make this situation very much worse;

(2) recognises that there is an immediate need to commence stage 2 of the hospital redevelopment to overcome these problems;

(3) notes that stage 2 of the redevelopment has been delayed because the Government has so far not agreed to continue cost sharing with the State Government; and

(4) urges the Government to accept the pressing need for it to share the costs of stage 2 and indicate this to the State Government without delay.
