Question No. 291

Mr Lloyd asked the Minister for Communications, upon notice, on 26 May 1983:

(1) Does the legislation currently governing Australia Post provide the Commission with sufficient incentive to undertake continuing assessment of the economic use of its network or individual assets within that network.

(2) If not, what will rectify this situation, and when will he take appropriate action.

(3) If the situation referred to in part (1) is the case, why is this not contrary to the view of the Committee of Inquiry into the Monopoly Position of the Australian Postal Commission.

Mr Duffy —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

(1) Yes, as provided in section 7 of the Postal Services Act 1975.

(2) Not applicable.

(3) I am unable to answer this part of the question; I find it incomprehensible .
