Media Release The Hon Ian Macfarlane, MP

15 June 2005

An innovative ‘paint on’ roof coating designed to cool internal building temperatures is one of six projects awarded funding under the latest round of Australian Government Commercialising Emerging Technology (COMET) grants.

Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane today announced Sydney-based innovators Lehmann Pacific Solar would receive $64,000 to help develop their “SkyCool” roof product as part of a COMET funding round worth more than $208,000.

Mr Macfarlane said ‘SkyCool’ offered a novel - and potentially cost-saving - approach to temperature regulation.

“The ‘SkyCool’ product is a highly reflective metal roof coating, which is applied like plastic paint to the exterior of metal roofs.

“The coating has specialised thermal emittance properties which help to lower internal air temperatures - reducing the energy demand and costs associated with conventional cooling methods.”

Other companies to receive COMET grants in this round include:

● Planet Paints Holdings, of Toowoomba, QLD, awarded $64,000 to commercialise an industrial paint

comprising 85 per cent recycled materials. [Contact Mr Mark Casey 07 3666 0899] ● Scenario Networks, of Mt Hawthorn, WA, awarded $5600 to market a data distribution and creation

technology that enables an Internet-based subscription service. [Contact: Mr B Wright 08 9443 2130] ● zRID, of Wangara, WA, awarded $5600 to bring to market its unique trigger-based welding safety

device that allows for zero current in the welding circuit when the operator is not welding, as well as removing the need for ancillary equipment and servicing. [Contact: Mr Ziggy Bruszewski 08 9302 2120]

“The Federal Government is committed to giving innovative Australian businesses a helping hand to bring new products to market that will potentially create jobs, export earnings and economic growth for all Australians,” Mr Macfarlane said.

Twenty-two innovation grants worth more than $22 million were today announced under the Federal Government’s R&D Start, COMET and Commercial Ready programs.
