Luke calls on community to get behind charity bike ride for Disabled Surfers Association

Federal MP Luke Hartsuyker has called on local residents to get behind the Disabled Surfers Association by supporting his charity bicycle ride through the Cowper electorate.

Luke commenced his electorate ride on Monday March 2 and will take three days to travel through the Clarence Valley, Coffs Coast, Bellingen and Nambucca shires, South West Rocks, before completing the ride in Kempsey.

The Bananacoast Credit Union is the main sponsor of the bicycle ride.

Luke said the Disabled Surfers Association was an excellent cause which assists people with disabilities to enjoy the thrill of the surf.

“By providing people who otherwise would not have the opportunity to enjoy surfing, the DSA is doing a tremendous job,” Luke said.

“Such activity is not only physically beneficial but it has the capacity to improve an individual’s confidence.

“However, organising open days and ensuring there is enough equipment does not come cheaply.

“That is why I am aiming to raise much needed funds and increase the awareness of the Mid North Coast branch of the DSA.

“I am calling on community groups and individuals to dig deep and make a donation to the ride. Every dollar will make a difference.”

Luke said he had been heartened by the support of a number of local businesses.

“When I approached Bananacoast Credit Union they welcomed the chance to support such a worthwhile organisation. Coopers Australia, Bob Wallis Cycles and Col Roberts signs have also come on board as associate sponsors.”

Luke said all donations can be sent to his office at PO Box 2056 Coffs Harbour, NSW, 2450. Cheques should be made payable to the Disabled Surfers Association.
