23 May 2003

14 Child care places for Central West Fourteen new Family Day care places have been approved for two Child care centres in the Central West, NSW Senator Sandy Macdonald announced today.

“The Cabonne / Blayney Family Day Care services will receive an operational subsidy of $9,360 per annum, to provide an extra nine Family Day Care places,” Senator Macdonald said.

“The Lithgow Uniting Church Family Day care service has received operational funding of $5,200 per annum for an extra five Family Day care places.”

“Family Day care is provided in an experienced carer’s home and is primarily for children who have not yet started school,” Senator Macdonald said.

“Family day care and in-home child care are great options for many families who rely on these services to help them balance the demands of work and family.”

“This latest allocation demonstrates the Coalition Government’s commitment to providing child care places to areas with the highest need, which in turn helps to ensure a strong and viable child care sector.”

“We are determined to provide quality, affordable child care so people can participate economically and socially in the community.”

Senator Macdonald said families using child care services that are approved by the Commonwealth may be able to claim Child Care Benefits to assist with the cost of care.
