Reminder for submissions on non-forestry Managed Investment Schemes

11 September 2008 DAFF08/117B

The Rudd Government has reminded interested individuals or groups they have until Friday 12 September 2008 to make submissions on a review of non-forestry Managed Investment Schemes (MIS).

The Government released an issues paper on non-forestry MIS in August, to look at its economic, social and environmental impacts.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Tony Burke urged the community to have a say on the paper.

“The Government is committed to developing policies to attract long-term, sustainable investment in rural and regional Australia,” Mr Burke said.

“We will continue exploring new opportunities which could benefit farmers and small businesses - through a genuine consultation process.

“I would encourage all interested parties to share their views on non-forestry MIS and contribute to the review.

“It is important that the concerns of the farming community are considered.”

Non-forestry MIS has been an area of recent growth, with estimates that contributions have almost tripled in three years, to $467 million in 2007.

More information about the submission process, including the issues paper, is available on the Department of Treasury website at www.treasury.gov.au
