23 May 2003

15 Child care places for Maitland Fifteen new Family Day care places and an operational subsidy of $15,600 per annum have been approved for Maitland Family Day Care Scheme Inc, NSW Senator Sandy Macdonald announced today.

“Family Day care is provided in an experienced carer’s home and is primarily for children who have not yet started school,” Senator Macdonald said.

“Family day care is a great option for many families who rely on these services to help them balance the demands of work and family.”

“This latest allocation demonstrates the Coalition Government’s commitment to providing child care places to areas with the highest need, which in turn helps to ensure a strong and viable child care sector.”

“By providing these additional places, the Government is proving yet again the commitment it has to helping families manage an often difficult and stressful balancing act of work and child care.”

“We are determined to provide quality, affordable child care so that people can participate economically and socially in the community.”

Senator Macdonald said families using child care services that are approved by the Commonwealth may be able to claim Child Care Benefits to assist with the cost of care.

For more information about child care, families can call the Federal Government’s National Child Care hotline on 1800 670 305.
