14T SENATOR RON BOSI TELL THE NATIONALSAu `rRALIA,w SENATOR FOR QUEENSLAND .v vvv : _,rte 26 August 2008B2008/51DESPITE DE CARR BLINDLY SUPPORTING ETS SSTATE LABOR FEARSQueensland Senator Ron Boswell said that "Labor's Federal Industry Minister Kim Carris ignoring the potential for the Government's Emissions Trading Scheme to `doublepower prices in the eastern seaboard electricity market' despite these concerns beingraised by the NSW Labor Energy Minister".In questioning by Senator Boswell the Minister said that he was `not familiar' with thesecomments nor was he familiar with statements quoted in the Australian (25/08/08), byNSW Labor Energy Minister Ian Macdonald when he said `I shudder to think how thewealth and job-creating industries of NSW will cope'."Despite his unfamiliarity with his state Labor colleague's comments, the Ministerstated that `Inevitably, there will be cost increases as a result of these changes. But there haveequally been measures taken by this government to consult widely... to ensure that there is aproper consideration of these matters in a timely manner without pretending that we can givesome sort of renaissance to the climate change sceptics in a manner which seeks to avoid theinevitability of these issues.'"Senator Carr says he has been consulting widely, however this consultation so fardoes not even include the NSW Labor Minister for Energy," Senator Boswell said."Industry has been crying out to find out how the Rudd Government will practicallydeliver the conditions that will allow high energy users to remain competitive but as yetwe have no substantial answers on how they will do this," Senator Boswell said.New South Wales, with the largest manufacturing sector in the country, have a lot tolose through an emissions trading scheme.
