Resignation of Mr Pat Walker as Petrol Commissioner.

I have regretfully accepted Pat Walker's resignation as the Petrol Commissioner.

Personal circumstances have necessitated Mr Walker's decision to leave the role so he can once again base himself in Perth. His resignation will take effect in two months.

Until that time, he will continue to hold petrol retailers and the oil companies to account, using the ACCC's enhanced formal monitoring powers to ensure full transparency in petrol pricing as international oil prices move over coming weeks.

Mr Walker brought a keen knowledge and expertise to the ACCC at a time when it looks to roll out Fuelwatch on December 15 to help motorists and make a transparent retail petrol market.

Of course, Mr Walker has been instrumental in highlighting the benefits of Fuelwatch in improving competitive outcomes and giving motorists the information they need to find petrol at the cheapest possible prices, with certainty.

The Government will make an announcement about a new Petrol Commissioner in coming weeks, in consultation with the states and territories.

Now more than ever, Australian motorists need Fuelwatch to shine a light on what petrol retailers are doing, so they can see who is passing on the benefits and who isn't.
