The Hon Bob Baldwin MP

Shadow Minister for Defence Science, Personnel and Assisting Shadow Minister for Defence

23 October 2008

Shadow Minister for Defence Science and Personnel, Bob Baldwin, makes no apology for standing up for ADF personnel and their families in Question Time.

Mr Baldwin was removed from the chamber yesterday as he spoke out for ADF families who have been neglected by the Rudd Government and the Minister for Defence, Science and Personnel Mr Snowdon who have failed to deliver on their promise to deliver Defence Family Health Care Clinics.

“I have listened to so many ADF families who are angry that the promise of basic health care has been completely abandoned,” Mr Baldwin said.

“Labor went to the last election promising to do more for our Defence Force families - brandishing a $33.1 million carrot that promised to establish 12 Health Care Clinics.

“Budget night saw this slashed back to $12.2 million with only $2.4 million for 2008-09 provided towards a limited trial which will be provided through another undelivered Rudd Government election promise of the GP Clinics.

“Now the plan is for more trials, more reviews, more words and no action. ADF families deserve better.” Mr Baldwin said.

“Labor went to the election saying they understood the unique challenges and problems faced by defence families in accessing healthcare when on a rigorous posting cycle. They obviously do not.”
