The Hon. Fran Bailey, MP Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence

PARLSEC 50/03 5 June 2003

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Fran Bailey today totally rejected Senator Allison’s hypothetical claims in Senate Estimates.

“Given that the local council has formally endorsed the Community Draft Master Plan specifying no residential sub-divisional development; and

“Given that the State Government has publicly stated that it would never support residential sub-divisional development; and

‘The zone controls will prohibit the use of any buildings on the site for private dwellings.

Effectively the only activity that will be permitted on the site without the need for Victorian Government approval is bee keeping’

Press release from John Thwaites 2 June 2003

“The Commonwealth has categorically stated that it will not support any submission for residential sub-divisional development.

“Senator Allison can hypothesise any scenario she likes in Senate Estimates, but the fact remains - all three levels of Government are in agreement, there will be no residential sub-division at Point Nepean,” Ms Bailey said.
