Stand for Parliament if you want to run the country, Mr Forrest - Brown

Media Release | Spokesperson Bob Brown

Thursday 22nd July 2010, 4:05pm

Andrew Forrest should stand for Parliament and test public support for his policies, Australian Greens

Leader Bob Brown said in Hobart today.

"Clearly the mining industry is split over paying its way. But Clive Palmer, Gina Rinehart and Andrew

Forrest should be standing in this election to get public endorsement for their demands that billions be

siphoned out of the public purse," Senator Brown said.

"They want more coal trucks for mining companies rather than high speed rail for all Australians. Labor's

backdown on the mining tax also means one percent higher tax on small business."

"I'm happy to be included in discussion as long as they are in public and not behind close doors like Julia

Gillard's backdown to BHP, XStrata and Rio."

"Let's book the Great Hall and have a full on public debate about who owns Australia's mineral resources

and what is a fair tax to fund the nation's future education, health and public transport needs," Senator

Brown said.
