The Hon Bob Baldwin MP Federal Member for Paterson

15 July 2008

Paterson MP Bob Baldwin has said the community will be the ones to judge aspiring councillor 19-year-old Matt Dixon.

Mr Dixon made headlines on Monday by becoming the youngest endorsed Labor candidate for the Maitland City Council elections later this year

He was front page again today after it was revealed he gave a false name to the media in an attack on Paterson MP Bob Baldwin during the 2007 Federal election campaign.

“I think the question is, will the real Matt stand up?” said Mr Baldwin.

“What are the voters in Maitland to think if he cannot even give his correct name when spouting the Labor cause he so obviously believes in?

“I have nothing against him standing as a Labor candidate but it has to cast a shadow of doubt about his integrity if he cannot give his real name.

“With the recent Iguanagate scandal and "don't you know who I am?" claims, I am afraid we really do not know who you are Matt. Do you come from the Graham Richardson school where whatever it takes to succeed in politics you will do?

“What other lies have you told, or are you prepared to tell, in order to achieve your political ambition?

“The people of Maitland deserve to have someone stand up for them - how can you stand up for anyone Matt if you can't even stand up for yourself?
