Federal Member for Paterson 29th June 2004 SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES & CHILD CARE PROVIDERS The Federal Member for Paterson, Bob Baldwin, has welcomed funding for child care providers and extra places for children in the Paterson electorate. A total of $70,148 has been approved for 2 community-based child care centres in Paterson to upgrade their facilities to meet health, safety and licensing requirements: • Beresfield Community Children’s Education Centre $16,050 - To assist with the kitchen upgrade • Kindilan Child Care Centre (Tuncurry) $7,864 - for the installation of air conditioning $18,880 - Kitchen Upgrade $20,589 - Installation of shade $6,765 - Installation of soft fall Port Stephens Family Day Care has received an extra 5 extra employer sponsored Family Day Care places. The Department of Defence is the employer sponsoring these places. And two new After School Care providers have had places and funding approved: • Paterson After School Care (Paterson Public School in the Dungog Shire) - 15 outside school care places have been approved, together with a $2,000 set up/assistance grant and $8,500 has been approved for sustainability assistance. • Salamander Vacation Care (St. Philips Christian College in Salamander Bay) - 30 outside school care places have been approved, together with a $2,000 set up/assistance grant and $4,250 for sustainability assistance. “The Australian Government’s commitment to child care will reach almost $8.5 billion over the next 4 years. This demonstrates the enormous investment we are making in child care and families in Australia,” Mr Baldwin said. “And from 5th July 2004, families will also benefit from a 2.4% increase in the rate of the Child Care Benefit payment.” For more information about child care, families can call the Australian Government’s national Child Care Access Hotline on 1800 670 305.
