Community experts join 'Get Ready for Digital TV' campaign

An expert body of community groups and advocates will assist Australia to get ready for digital television switchover.

"For the vast majority of people digital television switchover will be a simple and inexpensive task," the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy said.

"The newly-formed Consumer Expert Group will help ensure that everyone in the community understands how simple getting ready for digital TV can be.

"Working with this group will ensure the Government receives advice on the requirements of 'special needs' groups and the most effective ways to target switchover information throughout the community."

The eleven Consumer Expert Group members are:

z Association of Seniors Computer Clubs of Australia

z St Vincent de Paul

z Salvation Army

z Indigenous Consumers Assistance Network

z Vision Australia

z Country Women's Association

z Lions Australia

z Federation of Ethnic Communities' Councils of Australia

z Meals on Wheels

z National Disability Services

z CHOICE

"Working in cooperation with industry and other stakeholders, the Government has developed a considered and strategic approach to digital television switchover," Senator Conroy said.

"International experience highlights the importance of community engagement to develop and target digital switchover information.

"I welcome the participation of Consumer Expert Group members to help us ensure that all Australian television viewers have the information and resources they require to get ready for digital."
