FUNDING BOOST FOR GOLDFIELDS TOURISM The Minister for Tourism, Martin Ferguson AM MP, and Member for Ballarat, Catherine King, today officially opened the Creswick Interpretive Centre, which received $450,000 in Australian Government funding in the 2008 Budget.

The funding was a 2007 Election commitment and the project has the potential to bring increased tourism visitation and yield to the Creswick region.

Minister Ferguson said: "The Australian Government has delivered on its promise to the Creswick community and is very pleased that this important region now possesses a tourism focal point providing visitors with the information they need to plan an itinerary, stay longer, and spend more.

"The centre will help to increase exposure of the region by promoting its many attractions and activities."

Australian Government funding contributed towards the construction of the interpretive centre which is both energy and water efficient, incorporating environmentally sustainable design.

Ms King said: "Our region has many undiscovered treasures and the community here are eager to welcome visitors and share our history.

"The Creswick Interpretive Centre will play an important role in helping Creswick celebrate its heritage. Creswick has a rich history stretching back to colonial times and the heyday of the Victorian gold rush and it is fast becoming a key destination in this region.

"I congratulate the community of Creswick for developing this centre and both the Victorian Government and Hepburn Shire Council for their significant financial contributions to this important initiative.

"The Creswick Interpretive Centre will go a long way towards promoting tourism in the region and ensuring that once people visit they have the information necessary to plan their activities and stay for longer."
