NOW EVEN THE NSW LIBERALS OPPOSE WORKCHOICES

The decision yesterday by the NSW State Liberal Party to support the NSW Labor Government’s move to protect NSW public servants from the Howard/Costello Government’s extreme and unfair industrial relations changes again highlights what a dog’s breakfast John Howard’s Work Choices legislation is.

Peter Debnam’s support for State industrial relations coverage of around 186,000 NSW State public servants reinforces the fact that the Federal Government’s so-called single national industrial relations system is not that, but a jurisdictional dog’s breakfast with incomplete coverage.

This decision by Peter Debnam and his State Liberal Party colleagues comes before we’ve seen the reams of regulations the Howard/Costello Government needs to implement the bulk of their extreme and unfair legislation.

Yesterday’s decision comes off the back of Government Leader in the Senate, Senator Nick Minchin, letting the cat out of the bag to his friends and colleagues at the HR Nicholls Society, when he said that the Government’s changes haven’t gone far enough and that the Government is going to pursue further changes.

Minchin also said that he knew that the public “violently disagree” with the Government’s legislation.

No wonder Peter Debnam wants to join with NSW Premier Morris Iemma to protect NSW public servants from the worst effects of John Howard’s legislation.

Peter Debnam knows that under John Howard’s extreme and unfair changes working Australian families have nothing to look forward to except their wages being reduced and their conditions and entitlements slashed.
