MEDIA RELEASE 24 February, 2005

Mr Price congratulates the new president of the Golden Citizens Seniors Club

Federal Member for Chifley, Roger Price MP, yesterday (Wednesday, February 23) presented the new president of the Golden Citizens Seniors Club, Mel Battad, with a framed copy of his certificate of his taking of the oath.

Blacktown Councillor, Edmond Atalla, and Golden Citizens Seniors Club vice-president, Paul Marca, also attended the meeting.

Mr Price, who last year officiated Mr Battad’s taking of the oath, congratulated the new president on his commitment to members of the Australian-Filipino community.

“The Golden Citizens Seniors Club provides a strong support network to older members of the local community. With some 150 members, it is a place to catch up with old friends and make new ones,” Mr Price said.

“As we grow older, it is so important that we stay active - socially and mentally.

“Many Australians find that with age comes loneliness. If there were more organisations like the Golden Citizens Seniors Club, Australia would be a better place.

“The new president, Mr Mel Battad, will be a strong leader of the organisation.

“Mel and Paul’s work in the local community is to be commended and demonstrates their generous and selfless natures,” Mr Price said.
