Shoalhaven-based company Manildra - Shoalhaven Starches has been rewarded for its continued commitment to food innovation with a $218,000 Australian Government Grant.

Member for Gilmore Joanna Gash announced the grant under the Australian Government's Food Innovation Grants (FIG) Program.

The innovation grant will be used by Manildra to develop nutritionally valuable, protein-rich snack foods, incorporating wheat protein.

"My heartfelt congratulations go to Brian Hanley and the entire team at Manildra - Shoalhaven Starches," Mrs Gash said.

"So many people think Manildra is just about ethanol; well this grant shows Manildra is a true innovator across the board.

"Manildra is a company determined to drive Australia and the world into a healthier future, be it through innovation in food or innovation in fuel.

"It is great to see the local effort rewarded and placed, again, in the national spotlight."

The FIG Program is a cornerstone of the Australian Government's $114 million National Food Industry Strategy.
