FRANK WELCOMES GOOD FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR ILLICIT DRUGS

PREVENTION

Federal Member for Greenway, Frank Mossfield, said today  “I am extremely pleased that the Federal Government has provided $50,000 for the “Bridges:  Youth & Adults Building Bridges on Drug issues” project which is to be run through the Blacktown Alcohol & Other Drugs Family Services.

“The funding is part of the Commonwealth’s Community Partnerships Initiative, an $8.8 million program to encourage quality practice in community action to prevent illicit drug use and to build on existing activities occurring across Australia.

People from urban and rural areas, Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander communities and from non-English speaking backgrounds are included in the target list of successful grant recipients.

“The grants recognise the skills, knowledge, experience and commitment of groups within the community, such as that in Blacktown, to deal with local issues, especially where young people are concerned.

“I am hopeful that this funding grant from the Federal Government will assist us locally in the major task that needs to be tackled in illicit drug prevention programs.  The Government is to be congratulated on this action and I welcome the support given to Blacktown on this issue.”
