HAWKER WELCOMES NEW CONTRACTS TO DELIVER WELFARE TO WORK SERVICES

Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, has welcomed the Government’s new contract arrangements for organisations to deliver a range of employment and related services to help Western Victorians who are able to work move back into full or part-time jobs.

Mr Hawker said that the new contract arrangements will commence at the same time as the Government’s new Welfare to Work measures, to be implemented on 1 July 2006.

“The employment services covered by the new contracts include Job network, Work for the Dole, Disability Open Employment Services and the Personal Support Programme. They will assist in such things as job readiness training, re-skilling, personal support and job matching,” he said.

“These businesses will be in the best position possible to assist local people of working age currently receiving welfare payments. The services will assist people with a disability, parents, mature age people and the very long-term unemployed to re-join the workforce.”

Mr Hawker said that thirteen organisations have been offered employment and related services business in Wannon, covering seven separate Government employment and related services:

• Job Network

• Disability Open Employment Services • Community Work Coordinator (including Work for the Dole) • Job Placement, Employment and Training • Personal Support Programme • New Enterprise Incentive Scheme • Green Corps

“The Australian Government is strongly committed to increasing workforce participation among Australians and has created over 1.7 million jobs since 1996,” Mr Hawker said.

“I congratulate the organisations that have won contracts in Wannon. I know they will help and support even more people in our community to move into sustainable and long-term work.”
