Joanna Gash Member for Gilmore

8 August 2005

Gilmore palliative care providers have been encouraged to apply for funding under a new Australian Government grants program.

Member for Gilmore, Joanna Gash said the region’s health related services and organisations could apply for funding to improve palliative care services under the Local Palliative Care grants program.

Mrs Gash said the funding was designed to help achieve the best possible quality of life.

“This is for people who have a terminal illness and for their families and carers by providing things such as special beds and facilities for use in the local community,” Mrs Gash said.

The grants of between $30,000 and $100,000 are for projects that demonstrate a commitment to quality palliative care and can provide improved experiences for the dying, their families and their carers.

The Australian Government has provided $4 million for the program and it is part of a $23 million commitment to improving palliative care services.

Grants application forms and guidelines are available from, by emailing or by contacting Mrs Gash’s Nowra office.

Applications for the grants close Friday, September 9, 2005.
