Press Release

Tuesday, 14 November 2006

Federal Member for Barker, Mr Patrick Secker MP, today congratulated Waikerie Events 21 Inc on receiving $17,700 in funding from Festivals Australia—the Australian Government’s program that provides assistance to regional and community festivals for the presentation of quality cultural projects.

‘I congratulate Waikerie Events 21 Inc for their successful application in a highly competitive field,’ Mr Secker said.

‘Through this Australian Government program, Waikerie Events 21 Inc can now present “Pot Pourri” during April 2007 as part of the Music on the Murray Festival to the people of Waikerie and the surrounding region.

‘The Festivals Australia program is giving all Australians, wherever they live, the opportunity to access a range of creative and quality cultural activities that is enriching their lives and the life of their communities,’ Mr Secker said.

Festivals Australia funding is available to add a new or special sort of cultural activity to a community festival—an activity that has never been done before and could not otherwise be afforded.

Funding for Festivals Australia, and its sister program, Festivals Australia Regional Residencies, is offered twice a year. The next deadline for applications is 15 February 2007.
