Federal Member for Barker, Mr Patrick Secker MP today announced students and staff at two Riverland schools will benefit from Australian Government grants totalling $95,000 under the Investing in Our Schools Programme.

Mr Secker said the grants would be used to improve the learning environments for the student at each school.

Loxton Lutheran School received funding of $45,000 to replace old evaporative air-conditioners with reverse cycle air-conditioners.

Waikerie Lutheran School received 2 separate grants of $20,000 for the construction of a fitness trail and $30,000 for the repair and upgrade of a tennis court as a multi sport court with shade cover.

“The Investing in Our Schools Programme is an exciting new initiative which will deliver much needed funds to less well-off Catholic/Independent schools in Barker.

“The Australian Government recognises the importance of providing schools with facilities that will enhance the education and wellbeing of students.

The Investing in Our Schools Programme builds on the $1.5 billion already allocated by the Australian Government for school capital works over the four years 2005-2008.

During 2005-2008, the Programme will provide an additional $300 million in capital funding to Catholic/Independent schools, as promised during the 2004 Federal election campaign”, he said.

“This project involves a significant amount of funding which demonstrates the Government’s continued commitment to a strong and effective school system, maximising the opportunities for young Australians”, he said.
