ONE WEEK TO GO BEFORE NOMINATIONS CLOSE FOR AGED CARE AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE 2001 There is just one week to go before nominations close for the best in professional excellence in training and development in the aged care industry, Federal Minister for Aged Care Bronwyn Bishop said today.

Mrs Bishop said the Minister's Awards for Excellence in Residential Aged Care 2001 , introduced last year, would be held again this year, and was being extended to include an award for excellence in staff development in Community Aged Care Packages.

"I introduced these Awards last year to underline the Howard Government's firm commitment to promote excellence in the aged care industry and to draw attention to those providers who desire recognition through their pursuit of excellence.

"By recognising and rewarding those people and facilities that strive for and achieve excellence in skills and workforce development we provide a benchmark of the standards to whom we expect the whole industry to aspire."

Awards will be presented this year for Achievement in Professional Excellence in Residential Aged Care, for Excellence in Staff Development in Residential Aged Care, and for Excellence in Staff Development in Community Aged Care Packages .

"The new Community Aged Care Packages category is in line with the Government's policy of promoting and supporting quality Aged Care for frail older Australians in their own homes to enable older Australians to remain at home where they want to be," Mrs Bishop said.

"This Awards will recognise an outstanding Community Aged Care Package provider who achieves effective solutions for staff training and development in community care. Our aim is to encourage proficient workers who deliver the best possible care."

Aged Care.

The Minister for Aged Care Award for Excellence in Staff Development in Residential Aged Care will
